S/V Sabado

Sabado, Spanish for “Saturday,” is a 2017 Lagoon 42 owner’s version. Aboard Sabado, every day is Saturday!

Ray

Ray is originally from Portland, Oregon. Over the years, he has held many titles (commercial fisherman, engineer, delivery Captain, consultant, photographer, and bar/restaurant owner, to name a few). In 2018, he decided he was ready for a change of pace- and scenery- so he purchased Sabado and has been sailing full-time ever since!

You’ll usually find Ray researching the latest boat gadget or helping fellow cruisers with repairs.

Holly

Holly is originally from San Diego, California, where she worked as a microbiologist specializing in infectious disease research, alongside running a nonprofit organization for women in science. In 2019, Holly quit her job, sold all her belongings, and booked a one-way flight to Vietnam, where she had agreed to spend the foreseeable future bartending on a beach… Unfortunately, COVID border closures forced her to change her plans. Luckily, Ray and Sabado were in the United States and needed a hand. So, Holly moved aboard, fell in love with sailing, and is now a licensed Captain!

You’ll usually find Holly snorkeling or testing a new recipe in the galley.

Holly and Ray got married in the British Virgin Islands in May 2023. Together, they are hoping to sail around the world!

FAQ

What are your future sailing plans?

Our plans are written in sand at low tide, but we hope to slowly circumnavigate!

How much does it cost to live aboard full time?

We spend ~10% of the boat’s value per year on maintenance and repairs. We detail these expenses in our monthly Behind the Scenes posts. Personal expenses on top of that vary depending on location and lifestyle habits.

What has been your favorite destination so far?

Dominica. However, anchoring at the foot of the Statue of Liberty is a close second!

What is an average day living on a boat like?

Every day is different depending on where we are/whether or not we’re sailing! Check out our weekly blog
